Areas & maps

NO RECREATIONAL PROGRAM FOUND. West Haven is not on the state's recreational hotlines & maps list and is not in the state-referenced 2020 recreational shellfishing guide, and the state's Aquaculture Mapping Atlas shows no town recreational shellfish bed in West Haven. The atlas puts West Haven's share of a large Conditionally Approved area ("West Haven/New Haven/East Haven CA", 2.0" rain trigger) offshore, with Restricted-Relay and Prohibited water along the shore. A Conditionally Approved classification on its own does not create a public recreational area: shellfish grounds are often leased or franchised, and we found no West Haven recreational permit, map or rules. (state: CT DoAg Bureau of Aquaculture classification layer, last edited Mar 27, 2026; read Oct 23, 2026). Recreational harvest is only legal in Approved or open Conditionally Approved areas, never in leased or franchised beds. Do not harvest here unless the town or the state tells you a specific area is open to the public.
